Ava I'm happy you wrote about this. I fall into this trap ALL THE TIME of getting into something for good reasons, a la enjoyment, rest, creative expression, only to start getting ideas about how I can monetize it. Ugh, I hate that. LOL. I love journaling and bullet journaling and had an idea to start a Youtube channel about it. Um, no, Tom. How about you just enjoy your hobby without having to make money from it? Thanks for restacking my note the other day. I'm subscribing.

Tom, thank you for sharing! This is so true, I feel like even on here it's easy to get caught up in metrics, rather than truly immersing ourselves without expectation and enjoying the act not the outcome. Actively putting in boundaries or being firm with myself as helped me!

An ex of mine used to do this a lot and he was pretty hardcore following a lot of the trends. The only times I've water fasted or taken a cold shower or stared into the sun in the morning was to do wellness better THAN HIM. Making that a competition is exactly against your argument here, I know, but it's good knowing he was a wimp compared to me. No regrets.

LOVE this! All perfectly summed up. I love my exercise but recently realised I needed more rest and have dropped an extra day out of my workout schedule and feel SO much better for it.

Also your words about how inadequate we can feel, as though we’re not doing enough, we’re not good enough are so universal and chimed with me in terms of how I can sometimes feel about writing! Thanks for a great piece.

Thank you for reading it, appreciate it loads! 💛 Gosh I feel that - some days I skip the gym, and do a bit of stretching for yoga, or nothing at all! It's about what your body and mind needs not what you think you should be doing (although easier said than done!). It's easy to feel inadequate, especially unfortunately with things that mean the most to us!

Yes, it’s those things that mean the most to us that we beat ourself up about isn’t it?! So true.
